Tourist attractions, travel destinations and excursion destinations: Monasteries, churches

info-button-38-1

In addition to the large number of monasteries, cathedrals and churches, Transylvania, a region steeped in history, is known for around 180 fortified churches. Anyone wishing to embark on a journey through the past and present of Transylvania and the Transylvanian Saxons will find a large selection of fascinating destinations here. In addition to the fortified churches, which belong to the Protestant Church, Romania is also home to Orthodox monasteries, cathedrals and churches (both Orthodox and Catholic). Many of these monasteries have a centuries-old history and are deeply rooted in the past, but also in the present. The monasteries of Bukovina, the so-called Moldavian monasteries, which have been designated a UNESCO cultural heritage site because of their famous murals, are particularly well known internationally.
